The Kingdom of Denmark became a member of the European Community in 1973, when it left the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Greenland, then a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, leaved the European Community in 1982 (see here for the treaty of secession of Greenland from the European Community). In November 1993 the European Community transformed itself into the European Union.
